This well written 17 page paper looks at the UK police force and argues that the recent developments that have increased police powers, such as, but not limited to, PACE 1984, Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 and the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996, have not been balanced with effective police account ability.
