America The Melting Pot, France The Democratic Republic: How Have These Models Fared?
Number of pages:

ABSTRACT:
10 pages in length. The United States is often referred to as a country based upon an integrationist or melting pot model of incorporation and belonging, while France is
considered to be based upon a republican or assimilationist model. The manner by which these models compare and contrast brings to light how attitudes have changed throughout the twentieth century. One might readily surmise that these classifications were once based upon the notion
of equity for all; however, while the validity of these classification may have at one time held some modicum of social importance, both countries have ultimately deviated from their respective models in relation to policies toward immigrants and citizenship. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
