Analysis of "America is Her Name"
Number of pages:
5
ABSTRACT:
A 5 page paper discussing América Soliz's reactions to her new home, the Pilsen barrio of Chicago. The paper discusses the themes, style, language, imagery, point of view and message of the slim volume by Luis J. Rodriguez, a story in which a Mixteca Indian from Mexico loses her former strong voice when surrounded with fear and poverty, only to find it again in a different form. A visiting poet encourages América, and she regains her strong voice through the written, rather than the spoken, word. Bibliography lists 1 source.
