ABSTRACT:
A 5 page paper which compares and contrasts the autobiographical accounts of the Civil War, from the perspective of the northerner Rhodes and the southerner Watkins. Specifically considered are the men themselves and who they were, where they came from and why they joined the fight; the job of a common foot soldier; why Rhodes and Watkins chose to write about their wartime experiences; how each was affected by the war, particularly its death and destruction; how Watkins felt about the Southern cause and the war; why these books are important to historians and evaluates whether or not one has more value than the other since one was written while the war was going on, while the other was written twenty years later. No additional sources were used.
