Number of pages:

ABSTRACT:
5 pages in length. Learning to read can be a chore if not approached in a positive and interesting manner. Inasmuch as elementary school children have rather short attention spans, teachers are forever compelled to utilize various reading programs that not only stimulate the child's desire to learn, but also effectively carry out the task. Educators have been heralding the Direct Instructional System for Teaching and Remediation (DISTAR) program as a means by which to gain the attention of elementary school children, as well as effectively and entertainingly instill the properties of reading. The writer discusses the fundamental properties of DISTAR in relation to elementary school children. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
