ABSTRACT:
This 10 page report discusses whether or not political speech is protected under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and how the 1976 Supreme Court decision of Buckley versus Valeo (424 U.S. 1.) applies. The Court's conclusion was that the First Amendment forbids any limitation on what a campaign committee or independent citizen may spend in support of a candidate for federal office or on what a candidate may expend on his or her own campaign.
