According to C. Fred Bergsten – Director of the Institute for International Economics, former Assistant Secretary of the Treasury and Assistant for International Economic Affairs to the National Security Council – the United States has much to lose if it does not regain its once-solid stance regarding globalization, inasmuch as East Asia's impact upon technology – particularly in the manufacturing sector – is an ever-growing global commodity.
