ABSTRACT:
A 6 page paper discussing the origins, value and uses of military protocol, using the “Yes Sir” response and the salute as examples. The end goal is to effect desired results with the greatest degree of physical safety possible, to enhance respect for the chain of command and to build greater self respect within those practicing military courtesy. Taken as a whole, military customs, courtesy and protocol provide a framework that becomes ingrained and automatic, providing a basis of behavior that retains a sense of control and organization when external conditions indicate that the reverse is true. Bibliography lists 2 sources.
