Monetary Union in South America
Number of pages:
6
ABSTRACT:
A 6 page paper discussing the possibilities for monetary union in South America similar to that of Europe, a situation that the paper argues may be an option for the future but currently is unworkable. Political ideologies in South America are more disparate than among member nations of the EMU. When European nations aspiring to first-round membership in the EMU were working to achieve the requirements set in Maastricht, political differences were of far less importance than were economic ones. Also, the nations of Europe had developed economies while those of South America are still developing and several are relatively new to the concept of the market economy. Bibliography lists 7 sources.
