The origination of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was to establish a foundation that would create jobs in Mexico, Canada and the United States, raise living standards, reduce pressure for illegal immigration and improve the natural environment. One of the primary purposes behind implementing NAFTA was so that three hundred sixty million consumers who live in Canada, Mexico and the United States would have a powerful economic bloc. In more finite terms, it was formed to promote a climate of fair marketing, improve investment opportunities, protect industrial and intellectual property rights, as well as establish procedures for the resolution of disputes.
