ABSTRACT:
A 48 page research paper. The topic of censorship has caused heated debates for centuries. It continues to do so. This paper includes these subsections: introduction in which the general topics are introduced; the legal and common definitions of obscenity and pornography, including what the courts have ruled in specific cases; an overview of the history of pornography; fiscal aspects of this very large industry with data included and what major corporations are involved in this business; health, safety and morality perspectives; psychological perspectives, including the identification of a new addiction; sociological perspectives – what this means to the society; feminist perspectives, including the debate within the feminist movement regarding the censorship of pornography; the challenges of censorship; and a conclusion. A comparison is made between the art from the old masters and contemporary materials that are deemed to be pornographic, including a discussion of the Gearon photos at Saatchi's. Data included.
