The Rape Of Rebecca Foster
Number of pages:

ABSTRACT:
5 pages in length. What actually happened in Hallowell, Maine in 1789 requires the student to look past all the discord and ulterior motives that existed during the small town's most unprecedented occurrence. With two opposing pieces of historical evidence, it would seem justifiable to believe that at least one – if not both – contain a mixture of truth and fiction in order to support their specific viewpoint of the events. That the church reflected the unified religious point of view for the entire town provided the basis upon which its historical evidence might be skewed to help support the notion that Rebecca Foster's rape was little more than an invented plan to avenge her husband's poor treatment when he occupied the pulpit. Bibliography lists 2 sources.
