Number of pages:

ABSTRACT:
This 8 page report discusses the pre-19th century samurai class of Japan and the fact that strategy and an impenetrable code of honor served as hallmarks of Japanese military culture for centuries. The bushido, the ethical code that dictates samurai behavior, was essential to the maintenance of the elaborate feudal system as well as the imperial dynasty. But in the mid-19th century, the world of the samurai changed radically with the “Meiji Restoration.” Bibliography lists 5 sources.
